Senior Member of Technical Staff (athenahealth, Inc.; Watertown, MA): The Senior Member of Technical Staff (SMTS) will work alongside a technical team and product owners to deliver solid and secure code that solves business problems and enables business processes. The SMTS will be part of a team that owns strategically important data communications formats used by the company's world class healthcare information backbone. Additionally, the SMTS will assist the team in communicating a patient's critical data as she transitions across the spectrum of care. Specific duties include: Produce accurate, unambiguous technical design specifications to the appropriate detail; deliver customer value in the form of high quality software components and services in adherence with RPR policies on Security, performance, longevity and Integration testing; understand and follow coding conventions, architectures, and best practices; write, debug, and deploy code to production, and deliver timely fixes; adhere to DOD (story definition of done) as part of the sprint, including unit tests, functional testing, code reviews, no regressions, bug fixes, documentation and adhere to best coding practices; perform peer code reviews in order to ensure quality standards; contribute to agile ceremonies to improve team performance; participate and contribute to scrum meetings i.e. daily stand-up, sprint planning, readouts and retrospectives; and work collaboratively across the Technology and Product organizations to ensure alignment towards business goals.


Minimum requirements: Minimum requirements: Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; and five years of engineering experience in an agile environment.


Must have: Demonstrated knowledge of at least one modern programming languages such as: C#, C++, Perl, Java, Python, and javascript/jQuery; proven knowledge of Unix/Linux, Big Data, SQL, and NOSQL; demonstrated experience with object oriented programing, relational database technologies, distributed computing tech (Hadoop, spark), RESTful API, WebUI (HTML 5) and Modern JS frameworks; proven ability to write code that is technically sound, performant, scalable, and readable; proven ability to identify alternative methods of solving problems and build efficiencies while doing so; proven ability to work collaboratively on a cross-functional team with a wide range of experience levels; and proven ability to analyze and assess potential software designs with an eye towards finding the best solution for the business. (Unless otherwise indicated, athenahealth, Inc. is seeking the ability in the skills listed above with no specific years of experience required. All experience can be gained concurrently.)
