Sr. Member of Tech. Staff (athenahealth, Inc.; Austin, TX): Work closely w/ product owners & user exp. designers to design & build solutions while mentoring & coaching developers & building strong relationships w/ cross-functional team members & business stakeholders. Build new microservices in modern infrastructure; ensure proper automated test coverage, recommend frameworks & tools, & determine thorough test plans; produce accurate, unambiguous tech. design specs to appropriate detail; deliver customer value in form of high-quality software components & services in adherence w/ RPR policies on security, performance, longevity, & integration testing; proactively identify & proposing new, alternative technology in order to create scalable implementations & achieve results; accurately estimate size of development tasks in story points, & challenge others during estimation; provide high level T-shirt sizing for work required to build smaller software components & services; understand & follow coding conventions, architectures, & best practices, & hold other members of the team accountable for doing so; write, debug, & deploy code to production, & deliver timely fixes; scale systems to meet business demand; deploy systems to meet availability targets (HA/DR); adhere to DOD (story definition of done) as part of the sprint, including unit tests, functional testing, code reviews, no regressions, bug fixes, documentation, & adherence to best coding practices; perform peer code reviews to ensure quality standards; participate in team member interview process as needed, & influence final hiring decisions; act as the subject matter expert for area of assignment; participate in scrum teams following practices outlined by team; contribute to agile ceremonies to improve team performance; volunteer for work in backlog & commit to quality delivery; coordinate efforts across team to ensure completion & effectiveness; participate & contribute to scrum meetings; drive self-organization, & help determine how the team functions in collaboration w/ peers; serve as Scrum Master as assigned & ensure high team effectiveness & efficiency; advise & train members of the team to maximize overall productivity & effectiveness; & work collaboratively across the Technology & Product organizations to ensure alignment towards business goals.

Requirements

Min. reqs: Bach. deg. in Comp. Sci. or a rel. field, + 1 yr exp. in engineering role.

 

Must have demonstrated: exp. in software eng. & comp. sci.; knowledge of modern prog. languages such as: Java, Spring, Hibernate, & RESTful API; knowledge of Unix/Linux, SQL, & related DB technologies; knowledge of WebUI (HTML 5), Modern JS frameworks Angular, & React; knowledge of microservices architecture, messaging systems (ActiveMQ or Kafka), & Docker; knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services or Azure; knowledge of predictive analytics & machine learning; ability to learn & adapt in a fast-paced env. while producing quality code; ability to write code that is tech.ly sound, performant, scalable, & readable; ability to make decisions independently, driving towards the right solution; ability to find creative way to execute even when there is no historical context or known path forward; ability to analyze & assess potential software designs w/ eye toward finding best solution for the business; ability to consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances; & strong mentoring & coaching skills that encourage growth for more jr. members.
