Job Description

This job is for a full time research faculty position in the RF Photonics and Materials Division (RFPAM) within the Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). Chosen candidates will build and expand GTRI's research portfolio in the areas of applied materials and device research. The ideal candidate has excellent written and oral communication skills, extensive experience in attracting sponsored research in the area of developing and characterizing materials and devices, as well as developing proposals.

The RF Photonics and Materials Division currently performs advanced systems research that involves the development of new material and micro-electronic device technologies, RF photonics and electronic integrated circuits, and RF/millimeter-wave (mmw) devices. The components and sub-systems are used in a variety of systems and applications, primarily for DoD platforms.

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with infrared (IR) physics concepts
  • Experience in analyzing and characterizing various materials and devices
  • Extensive experience working in an electronics clean room
  • Preparation of proposals and grant applications
  • Strong Project Management experience
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Mentoring of students and/or junior employees

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
