ICBM and Strategic Systems (I&SS) requires a materials and processes engineer to assure effective in-house designs, help manage materials and processes for subcontracts, support issues on the manufacturing floor and lead Failure Analysis investigations

This position will provide support through the product design lifecycle for materials and mechanical piece parts. The selected candidate will be responsible for materials integration of mechanical design activities, including requirements development and derivation, concept evaluations, trade studies, layouts, analyses. The mechanical materials engineer position will coordinate the development of models, material layouts and performance of all necessary analyses. Support will also be provided to producibility studies, cost trades, design for long term operations and maintenance, and all necessary development planning activities. This may include the following tasks
- Hands-on Laboratory testing and analysis support, mechanical testing (Instron), elemental analysis (XRF), and cross-sectioning (metallography using SEM/EDS) as part of acceptance testing or failure analysis efforts involving adhesives, electronic components, populated circuit boards, or electro-mechanical assemblies
- Program Planning documentation and standardization, PMP management plan, metallic finishing specifications, corrosion prevention and control plan, material/process design of experiments and Qualification, coordination with Engineering design teams
- PMP requirement verification and program memorandums, Process Material Usage Agreements and Non Standard Material Approval Requests, Establish/chair PMP control board reviews as necessary

Basic Qualifications
Familiar with Engineering design (drawing reviews, schematic reviews, etc.). Knowledge of Materials and Processes for development, design, application and production. Understanding of material properties definitions is required. Demonstrated knowledge in a variety of materials and process engineering disciplines including corrosion, welding, soldering and adhesives. Good written and verbal skills. Experience in Instron mechanical testing, elemental analysis (XRF), and cross-sectioning (metallography using SEM/EDS). Fundamental understanding of aerospace vehicle structures, mechanisms, thermal products, materials and processes

Desired skills
Desired skills include non-conformance submittals to the customer. Welding and soldering manufacturing and repair is highly desirable.

Working knowledge of MS Office suite, MAPTIS, IHS, NASA Stds, DoD procedures, DFAR, Mil Standards & SharePoint. Ability to multi-task, handle shifting priorities and timeline pressure to meet project deadlines. Q-note disposition and SAP experience is highly desired. Experience working with procurement and outside suppliers, including Product Acceptance Instructions (PAIs), VRICs, source inspection, etc

• Experience with USAF programs and execution
• Demonstrated ability as a team player to build consensus among peers and build effective relationships with team members
• Effectively manage change
• Demonstrated ability to drive hardware production activities through delivery to the program
• Experience with CAD modelling, interpretation and release in CREO/EPDM
• Demonstrated ability to lead an Integrated Product Team
