The Nebraska Applied Research Institute (NARI) has a position open for a Senior Control System Engineer. The incumbent applies principles and techniques of electrical engineering and conducts research and development activities; to include leading the planning, designing, reporting and managing of all Test and Development Environment projects and initiatives. The Senior Control System Engineer leads team members and interfaces with customers to obtain all necessary information and data to complete the audit, design, construct, commission and operations processes including detailed reports and recommendations to the customer end users. This role requires a high level of expertise and understanding of building management systems such as HVAC control, lighting control, fire and life safety systems, and hands on experience with SCADA control systems in a complex environment.

WORK SCHEDULE: M-F (8hr day between 7am & 6pm: flexible hours)


•Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.

•Required Experience:
-5+ Years of PLC Controls Engineering. Leadership experience (Project Lead, Project Manager, Supervisor, Team Lead, or similar).
-Experience in programming one or more of the following Building Automation System (BAS) Human Machine Interface (HMI): Tridium, Honeywell, Siemens, JCI, Allerton, Automated Logic Controls.
-Experience in programming one or more of the following PLC platforms: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc.
-Experience in third-party integration devices connected through Modbus, LON, Ethernet IP, Siemens P2, BACNET, or other communication protocols. 2+ years working with and programming automated equipment including VFDs and other programmable controllers.
-Requires proficiency in reading and understanding design documents including PIDs, instrument loop drawings, schematics, etcetera.

-Ability to design and conduct a systematic, objective, and critical investigation
-Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
-Possesses the trait of being organized or following a systematic method of performing a task
-Identifies and correct conditions that affect employee safety
-Familiarity with Federal, State, and Local codes and ordinances pertinent to planning, designing, reporting and managing electrical systems.
-Possesses comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering principles, concepts, practices and theories.

•Additional Requirements:
This position requires compliance with U.S. law concerning the export of sensitive information, equipment, software, technology, etc., including the Arms Export Control Act and the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations (ITAR) through the U.S. State Department, the Export Administration Act and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) through the US. Commerce Department, and the Trading with the Enemy Act through the US. Treasury Department and its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) (collectively, “U.S. Export Controls”). Additionally, this position requires a Top Secret security clearance. By applying for this position, the applicant also certifies that he/she holds a Top Secret security clearance or is able to acquire such a security clearance within two years.

•Will consider a combination of education and work experience.

•Preferred Education:
Master’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering

•Preferred Experience:
-Experience developing control solutions for industrial applications e.g. locomotives, wind turbines, oil and gas systems, power plants, healthcare systems, and aerospace.
-Broad knowledge base in instrumentation, analytical systems, process automation, DCS/PLC/SIS systems, SIS Functional Safety and P&ID development.
-Experience in developing cyber-security algorithms and segmentation
