Job Description

The GTRI Robotics and Autonomous Systems Division is looking for a Master's or PhD (preferred) in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Robotics, or related fields specializing in robotic algorithms and dynamical systems control. You will be joining a growing robotics division, and responsibilities may include development of real-time algorithms for robotics applications, including multi-robot collaboration, swarming control algorithms, path planning, guidance, navigation, and task allocation on aerial robots.

Job Duties

We are looking for strong candidates who are self-motivated, have demonstrated programming skills, follow software engineering best practices and a have strong mathematical foundation and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of C++, ROS, and Linux.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • The position will involve rapid prototyping and field testing, generation of research reports, publications, proposals, and briefs to customers, requiring excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with state-of-the-art algorithms on real-world mobile robot systems, including field test experimentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fast prototyping in Python as well as experience in integrating and deploying these algorithms for real-time operation on a robot in real world environments is a plus
  • A strong publication history demonstrating the ability to perform independent research is a plus
  • Proven research experience in at least one of these areas is desirable:
    • Multi-robot collaboration
    • Path planning and navigation
    • Behavior based robotics
    • Optimal control and estimation
    • Machine learning for robotic control
    • Software engineering processes

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
