Process Development Engineers are responsible for developing all process flows required to micro-fabricate the relevant microsystems. The Process Development Engineer may be a unit or module owners in which case they are responsible for specific key process steps such as dry etching, deposition, lithography, wafer bonding or wet etching. Alternatively, the Process Development Engineer may be responsible for an integrated process flow which combines multiple unit processes to produce a completed wafer. Process engineers work closely with Process Development Technicians and Design and Test Engineers to build advanced prototype micro-devices for technology development projects.

Key Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience, or PhD and 2+ years industry experience
  • Willing to spend at least 50% of time in the lab
  • Hands-on, fundamental operational understanding of specific process equipment
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction, as well as in a team environment across functional and organizational boundaries
  • Detail oriented problem solver, sense of urgency and commitment to achieve targeted goals.
  • Hands-on experience with all requisite metrology equipment in the lab
  • Organized means of capturing and storing relevant process data
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating SEM and capturing EDS data
  • Experience in transitioning from prototypes to high-volume micro fabrication environment
  • Experience with statistical process control
  • Experience managing process technicians
  • Working knowledge of JMP or Matlab

Description

Process Development Engineers must be hands-on, willing to work in a lab environment, understand and be able to operate requisite process and metrology equipment and possess strong analytical skills in order to conduct experiments, debug failures, and process and present data to the team. The Process Development Engineer must be a team player and possess excellent communication skills. Process Development Engineers will direct the day-to-day activities of Process Development Technicians that run wafers through each unit process. This position requires significant microscope inspection, characterization of the unit processes through appropriate metrology equipment, organization of captured data, and capacity to obtain and process data from analytical techniques such as Auger, EDS, etc.

Education & Experience

BS ME/EE/MS degree or equivalent
