Security personnel help maintain integral elements of an overall security theory, posture, and infrastructure designed to efficiently deter, delay, detect and identify threats to NSA people, resources and facilities.",

The professionals at the National Security Agency (NSA) have one common goal: to protect our nation. The mission requires a strong offense and a steadfast defense to successfully execute NSA's mission. The offense collects, processes and disseminates intelligence information derived from foreign signals for intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. The defense prevents adversaries from gaining access to sensitive classified national security information.

Security and Counterintelligence is responsible for the protection of NSA/CSS information, people and facilities worldwide. In support of this mission, Security Information Specialists are integrated into the personnel, physical, and counterintelligence security disciplines to ensure highly sensitive information utilized in all security processes are protected and handled in accordance with all applicable laws and policies. Interfacing with NSA and other agencies, these specialists are the backbone of and the customer service representatives for the Security and Counterintelligence team. Security Information Specialists work in a myriad of offices. The responsibilities of a Security Information Specialist include, but are not limited to:

Track/manage highly sensitive security processes
Maintain highly sensitive security information, disclosed only to authorized recipients, in appropriate formats, and within constraints of relevant laws (e.g., the Privacy Act and FOIA).
Prepare accurate and complete reports that document processes, outcomes, and findings
Provide basic security analysis and risk recommendations to decision makers and customers
Create products based on analysis of security and/or counterintelligence data
