Job Description

The Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Lab (CIPHER) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute is seeking someone with 3 - 7 years of experience whose primary responsibility will be developing and maintaining a vision for their product and is responsible for communicating that vision to the Scrum team. The Product Owner (PO) is responsible for the product and product features from concept to end-of-life. The PO works with architects, stakeholders, and the development team to ensure that business, quality, and functional goals are met with each product release. The PO is responsible for the design, usability, quality, delivery, and overall customer value of a product or feature. The PO is the key decision-maker on priorities and overall design decisions and works to ensure that all stakeholders are aligned at each stage of the development lifecycle. The PO understands both the engineering and business side of the product release and is ultimately responsible for representing user needs.

Candidates must enjoy working with open source software and cutting edge technologies. Candidates will contribute to sponsored research projects and have an opportunity to interact with other scientists and engineers. Candidate should also have the desire to mentor and lead more junior colleagues.

Job Duties:

  • Lead product release planning and set expectations for delivery of new functionality
  • Provide backlog management, iteration planning, and elaboration of the user stories
  • Work with the development team, stakeholders, and technical leads to determine scope and priorities for product development cycles
  • Providing vision and direction to the development team and stakeholders throughout the project and create requirement
  • Liaise with the DevOps team to manage deployments and ensure system up-time
  • Develop appropriately detailed requirements and user stories for product features so that they are clearly understood by the development teams
  • Inspire and motivate the development teams to deliver innovative and exciting solutions with an appropriate sense of urgency
  • Act as an ambassador for the product internally and externally, and as the primary technical contact for queries related to the product
  • Participate/facilitate technical meetings and discussions with existing and prospective customers
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for backlog prioritization
  • Research and analyze market trends, user needs, stakeholder priorities to develop a product roadmap

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Management, Engineering, Science, or related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Management, Engineering, Science or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree Management, Engineering, Science or related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Management, Engineering, Science or related field of study

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Understanding of systems engineering concepts, including ability to quickly learn what applications are being utilized, what new possible outcomes can be achieved through current platforms, and what the latest technology offers
  • Outstanding writing skills with an ability to convey complex, technical information in an engaging and easily understood manner
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and translate business needs into application and operational requirements
  • A minimum of 4-years experience working as a product owner, business analyst, project manager, product owner, or similar role
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Project and Issue Tracking tools, and Content Collaboration tools

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
