Since 1957, when Glasgow became the first university in Scotland to have an electronic computer, we have built a reputation for the excellence of our Computing Science research and our graduates. Today, our School of Computing Science is one of the foremost in the UK, setting itself the highest standards in research, and research-led learning and teaching.  In the UK's 2014 independent research exercise, we were judged equal 16th amongst UK computer science departments, and rated top in Scotland for research impact with 68% of our impact judged world-leading and 32% internationally excellent.

 

The School is creating a research theme in Understandable Autonomous Systems: Ethics, Transparency and Trust that will explore impending challenges for computational services and algorithms.

 

The job purpose is to develop, lead and sustain research of international standard; to actively engage in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and to play a role in developing and executing School strategy, management and organisation.

 

There are four positions in total, across four different research areas:

All four roles are full time and open ended and are available at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer/Reader (equivalent to Assistant or Associate Professor), subject to eligibility.

Standard Terms & Conditions

Salary will be on the Research & Teaching Grade, level 7/8/9, £35,210 - £39,610 / £43,266 - £50,132 / £51,630 - £58,089 per annum. All four roles are full time and open ended.

 

If appointed at grade 7/8 you will be enrolled onto the University’s Early Career Development Programme (ECDP). This will provide a vehicle for you to be developed and supported over a specified timeframe to facilitate the advancement of your academic career.

 

As part of your application your cover letter you should submit one-page research and teaching statements outlining your vision for research and what you think matters for teaching, together with a link to your Google scholar page. It is the School’s standard practice to invite selected candidates to visit the School to provide a lecture and meet academic staff.
