Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for multiple open-rank faculty positions in the areas of (1) Biomedical and Computational Imaging with an emphasis on medical and biological image analysis, signal/image processing, and machine learning for biomedical applications, and computational methods for smart health and (2) Robotics with emphasis on all computational aspects, including perception, computer vision, planning, learning, and formal methods for robotics. Exceptional candidates in other related areas will also be considered. The Robotics search will be conducted jointly with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 35 core faculty members including 12 Fellows of the IEEE, AAAS, and other professional societies, and 17 NSF CAREER and Young Investigator awardees. ECE department has 11 cooperating faculty members from across UCR who actively participate in the research activities of the department and a number of researchers and adjunct faculty. The ECE department trains over 200 graduate students and receives annually over $10 million in research funding. Research areas in the department include computer engineering, controls and robotics, intelligent systems, smart grids and energy, nanomaterials and devices, and signal processing and communications. Multiple ECE faculty collaborate with the campus research centers/units, including the Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS), the Center for Nanoscale Science & Engineering (CNSE), the Winston Chung Global Energy Center (WCGEC), the College of Engineering’s Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT), the Center for Advanced NeuroImaging (CAN), and the UCR School of Medicine.

The Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE) is a well-established, rapidly growing college at UCR. Ranked in the top 20 best public global universities for engineering by U.S. News & World Report, BCOE has 130 faculty members, more than 3,400 undergraduate students, 1,000 graduate students, and more than $44 million in total annual research expenditures. The college is home to five departments, 11 undergraduate programs, ten graduate programs, and 11 research centers.

Successful candidates will have a proven record of, or exceptional promise for, developing a vibrant externally-funded research program, as well as a portfolio of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. UC faculty are expected to maintain an active research agenda and record of publications, teach a regular course load at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and participate in service activities at the department, college, campus, and professional levels. Candidates should also demonstrate clear potential for complementing and/or synergistically leveraging existing research activities within the department, college, and campus. They will be expected to support new cross-cutting efforts relevant to their expertise.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment, which is expected to begin on July 1, 2023. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.
