Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) Digital Technology is seeking an experienced leader to inform critical architecture evolutions necessary to drive business transformation through digital technologies. Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategy and Architecture, this position serves as Chief Architect for Digital Technologies by engaging on top initiatives to direct architectural changes and integration. This role shapes business outcomes possible through digital technologies using architecture methods and frameworks to deliver strategic advantage. This role works in partnership with architecture leaders from multiple disciplines and domains to create cohesive solutions that deliver intended outcomes. This role is accountable for challenging the status quo, and creating strategic alignment on key initiatives across Corporate, functions and partners by influencing senior leaders within RMD and engaging with senior leaders at Enterprise Services and other corporate functions.

This position can be located near any RMD Site and requires domestic travel about 15-20% of the time.

Responsibilities to anticipate:
  • Develop architecture vision, strategy, goals and objectives for most critical digital technology initiatives.
  • Define reference architectures, product line architectures, principles and standards required to guide architecture integration.
  • Chairs RMD Digital Technologys architecture board and working groups to maintain awareness and alignment throughout the architecture community of practice.
  • Represents RMD Digital Technology on corporate level architecture councils and boards.
  • Engages business leaders to define architecture scope, outcomes and horizons for key capability transitions.
  • Partners with peers and architects throughout the organization to facilitate staffing decisions for key architecture positions, to guide architecture work and to develop architectural talent.
  • Supports key sourcing activities by evaluating products and services for architectural maturity and fitness for adoption.
  • Structure architectural trade-offs and facilitate executive decisions with supporting data and analysis.
  • Influences strategic alignment with other operating units of RTX and key external suppliers.
  • Facilitates prioritization of architecture engagements and any necessary architecture reviews.

    Qualifications you must have:
  • Minimum of 12 years experience, preferably across multiple domain areas such as information technology, engineering, enterprise architecture and product development.
  • Minimum 2 years experience successfully leading enterprise level architecture initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and organize architectural efforts spanning multiple architectural domains (ERP, cloud services, applications, analytics, infrastructure, etc.).
  • Experience improving the product development lifecycle (concept through sustainment) by identifying and leading value added enhancements to key value streams.
  • Experience briefing at the executive/business leadership level.
  • Bachelors degree; preferably in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or related Business Management Field.
An active and in-scope Secret US security clearance.

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate vision, negotiate and challenge respectfully and describe opportunities in a way that influences and aligns key decision makers on top priorities (utilizing strong verbal and written communications, presence and influence, and business and technical acumen).
  • Strong understanding of multiple business disciplines and how they are integrated to drive execution in a manufacturing setting (such as engineering design, manufacturing, test, quality, supply chain, manufacturing, finance and program management).
  • Demonstrated ability to understand RTX business model and financial impacts to program performance.
  • Certifications in any of the following areas will be helpful to the success of this leader: TOGAF, DODAF, Zachman, ATAM or related.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, ability to exercise independent judgment and manage complexity and ambiguity.
  • Working knowledge of DoD and manufacturing sector requirements and trends related to digital transformation.
