Job Description

The Information and Communications Lab (ICL) Communications Systems and Spectrum Division (CSSD) seeks co-ops/interns to contribute to active research projects by prototyping, designing, building, and testing the next generation of wireless communications systems and testbeds for electronic warfare scenarios. The student will work under the guidance of GTRI researchers performing one or more of the following activities:
Building RF test systems in a lab environment
Assisting with RF lab tests and measurements
Designing and coordinating chassis build processes

The Information and Communications Lab (ICL) Communications Systems and Spectrum Division (CSSD) researches and develops next-generation wireless systems and communications techniques. To advance existing electronic warfare, ICL CSSD generates solutions for complex radio test and measurement scenarios, test events, and fielded systems. Our researchers fuse multiple complex technologies including software-defined radio, FPGAs, LTE, 5G, circuit board design, 3D printing, and UAVs to solve our customers most challenging problems.

Required Minimum Qualifications


Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms
Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation


Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
2.0 or higher GPA
Availability to work 20 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications

Background in RF engineering
Knowledge of basic electrical test equipment
Familiarity/experience with soldering
Ability to assemble hardware from schematics
Experience in 1 or more programming languages such as python
Familiarity with Linux and Windows
Ability to understand and clearly communicate technical ideas

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
