Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Arlington, VA is seeking an RF Signals and Systems Engineer to support the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) of the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL). The role of this position is to conduct research in RF systems engineering and signal processing as applied to intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems including radar, Electronic Intelligence (ELINT), and Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT). Specific duties may include performing sensor and architecture modeling; systems trade study analysis; signal processing algorithm definition and development; Modeling and Simulation (M&S) of sensors and systems at low, medium and high fidelity; and system performance prediction.

The successful candidate will be able to abstract from first principles an understanding of electromagnetic, physical and signal processing effects to help quantify and predict system level performance as part of sponsored research in close collaboration with other scientists and engineers. The candidate will be involved in a team environment consisting of GTRI, Government, Academia, and Industry partners. This position also requires excellent communication skills in order to convey analysis, design and trade spaces to the customer and end users, and to assist in the description of required current and future capabilities. The candidate will be required to write technical papers to summarize the research and to assist the Project Director in defining new research opportunities.

Job Duties

  • Presenting results of research to sponsors, at conferences, etc.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December, 2019
  • M&S experience in MATLAB, Mathematica, C, Python or similar languages, and
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret or Top Secret security clearance,
  • Experience with radar, RF, optics, or other sensor systems or communication systems,
  • Digital signal processing experience,
  • Experience summarizing technical research for non-technical persons, and
  • Prior experience with effects based signals analysis and/or physics-based modeling and simulation is highly desired.

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
