RF Design and Development Engineering Intern - Summer 2021 - SEAL

Job Description

The STEM@GTRI summer program seeks college students to assist with RF communications projects. Successful candidates will assist high school student interns with RF communications subject matter acquisition. This involves understanding system design, subsystem block functionality and testing. Also, college interns will provide engineering and supervisory support for program-specific tours and trainings; supervising and managing student teams consisting of minors; and monitoring team progress. 

Required Minimum Qualifications


  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology 
  • 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity and passion for RF communication theory and practice (Wi-Fi, cable, satcom)
  • Experience in one or more programming languages and able to lead trainings for the language
  • Experience with circuit or modern modeling with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Familiarity with making RF measurements (S-parameters, gain flatness, link-budget)
  • Familiarity with QAM-based modem systems design and functions (e.g., error correction, pre-distortion, interleaving)
  • Familiarity with controlling and passing measurement parameters to generators and analyzers (e.g., Kesight, Signal Hound)
  • Familiarity with QAM-based measurements (SNR, BER cerves, EVM)
  • Task / team leadership experience
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Familiarity with transmission line theory
  • Familiarity with electronic circuit testing
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
  • Ability to work with minors
