Job Description

GTRI/CIPHER seeks a highly motivated individual with 0-10 years of work experience to support assessment of domestic and foreign RF communications technology, systems and components. Technical disciplines that may be required in these efforts include transmitter/receiver design, test and evaluation of RF systems, reverse engineering, circuit design/analysis, communications theory, digital signal processing, RF signal collection and analysis, protocol-layer analysis and simulation, embedded system programming, and countermeasures and vulnerability analysis for RF systems. 

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to earn a Master’s degree within five years of employment if Master's degree is not already held
  • Familiarity with design and/or testing of RF communications systems
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Ability to follow Georgia Tech policies and procedures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in reverse engineering, computer programming, software radio, or working with test and measurement equipment are a plus.
  • 3+ years of related work experience
  • Experience with design and/or testing of RF communications devices
  • Familiarity with a variety of modulation and coding schemes
  • Familiarity with frequency hop communications systems
  • Familiarity with communication protocols used in RF communications systems
  • Experience with developing countermeasures against RF communications systems (jamming, spoofing, replay attacks, etc.)
  • Experience with software reverse engineering tools (IDA, advanced debuggers, etc.)
  • Experience using software defined radios (X-MIDAS, GNU radio)
  • Experience working with the U.S. government, including the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community
  • Active U.S. security clearance

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
