Research Software Engineer

Are you creative, excited by emerging technologies and exploring new ideas with team members on a common platform? This unique role requires you to develop new algorithms for adaptive MR image-guided brachytherapy. In addition, you will facilitate the implementation of such algorithms by the development team at Elekta together with the research team at Johns Hopkins University.

You must be flexible and self-guided - with an ability and willingness to change course, design or technology as needed. In this position, you will be asked to “see what’s possible” while creating proof of concepts and demos.

You will report directly to the VP of Physics & Research Global Engineering while working closely with a number of different teams and people exploring new ideas. This role provides the opportunity to research new technologies or solutions along with the new products.

 This is a five-year project-based position. The selected candidate will work full-time in the office located at John’s Hopkins University Hospital.



Interface between Elekta and Johns Hopkins University research and development teams working on a common platform.

  • Develop in collaboration with the research team of Johns Hopkins University Hospital software modules that enable adaptive MRI-guided brachytherapy.
  • Design and document efficient and robust implementation of MRI-guided brachytherapy planning.
  • Support use of Elekta’s Oncentra research toolkit for advancing academic development.



  • Computer Science and Engineering at Masters or PhD level
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in software development
  • Acquaintance with radiation therapy treatment planning and delivery methods; familiarity with brachytherapy is a plus
  • Ability to translate physical and mathematical concepts into prototype products
  • Ability to write effective C++/C# code to implement and validate research ideas and translate it to robust product components and prototypes
  • Knowledge of modern scripting languages (JavaScript/Python) and GPU programming is an asset
  • Experience of working in an FDA regulated environment is desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
