The Department of Atmospheric Science at the University of Wyoming is seeking applications for a Radar Specialist for the University of Wyoming King Air Research Aircraft (UWKA) Facility. This is a world-class research facility owned and operated by the University of Wyoming and funded through the National Science Foundation’s Lower Atmospheric Observing Facilities (NSF-LAOF) Program. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the operation and support of the Wyoming Cloud Radar (WCR) and the recently developed Ka-Band Precipitation Radar (KPR).
The successful applicant will join a team of more than a dozen engineers and scientists that support the mission of UWKA facility of tropospheric observation and process studies. He/she will lead the effort for the preparation, deployment, operation, and future development of the UWKA Facility radars. This includes developing and maintaining hardware and software for the radars. The successful applicant will also be responsible for delivering high-quality scientific data to users of the facility and will have opportunity to use radar data to advance his/her own scientific interests. Both radars are currently undergoing major upgrades as part of the development of the Next Generation King Air aircraft, a program funded through NSF. These upgrades and developments will position the WCR and KPR as pre-eminent airborne radars for operation on the King Air and other NSF LAOF aircraft for the foreseeable future.
We anticipate this position will be filled at either the Associate or Senior Research Scientist Level, depending upon experience.
