In order to support the goals of NRC and the Digital Technologies Research Centre (NRC-DT), we are looking for dynamic and promising Research Officers who share our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity. We are especially interested in hiring researchers at the beginning of their careers.


The primary responsibility of the researchers in these positions is to conduct research of international caliber in a subfield of Computer or Computational Sciences. Researchers will work in a team environment with other researchers and technical experts in world-class facilities. The researcher will be called on to excel on the international stage, in publication, conferences, evaluations, demonstrations, or similar fora.


Technical Competencies


  • Advanced knowledge of one subfield of computer or computational sciences, including but not limited to computer vision, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, augmented or virtual reality, internet of things, machine learning, life sciences, blockchain, financial technologies, computational social sciences, human-computer interfaces, medical informatics, quantum technologies, game theory, engineering or advanced manufacturing.

  • Ability to publish high-quality research papers.

  • Ability to develop research prototypes.

  • Ability to iteratively improve algorithms or systems through empirical evaluation or theoretical development.

  • Basic knowledge of modern statistical and machine learning techniques.


PhD in Computer Sciences, Engineering, Computational Social Sciences, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Information Technology, Physics, Applied Mathematics or similar discipline.

  • Experience creating new methods, novel algorithms or new capabilities in a subfield of digital technologies.

  • Experience planning and executing a research agenda.

  • Experience building a strong publication record in top conferences and journals.

  • Experience working in a team on the development of large-scale research prototypes.  In this context, large-scale could be based on the data size, system size, user-base, etc.

  • Experience participating in international conferences, competitions or shared tasks in a subfield of digital technologies.
