Job Background


StartUP FIU is currently seeking a Research Assistant Professor in Sensing, Biosensing, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) or Biological/Chemical Sciences to join our team of professionals. Position reports to Director StartUP FIU.


Job Information

This Program in FIU is designed to recruit outstanding Ph.D. applicants to assist the organization in meeting its objectives. Regardless of primary departmental assignment, this position needs the applicants to work with various departments and schools including Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computing and Information Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, and Biological/Chemical Sciences. Primary consideration will be given to applicants who can direct research, development and steps towards commercialization of FIU’s technologies. This appointment may be renewed at management’s discretion based on excellent work performance and funding availability.


Applicants must have following:

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in Wearable and Point of Care Devices, Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), Power Harvesting for WearableElectronics


Job Duties would be but not limited to:


  • Conduct research and catalogue available university proprietary, patented and unpatented technologies in their assigned domain


  • Assess the commercial viability of such technologies


  • Collaborate with the Director of StartUP FIU in organizing teams for selected technologies to pursue I-Corps grants and other paths to commercialization


  • Promote commercialization of faculty research amongst faculty, post-docs and students in Science and Engineering departments inFIU


  • Prepare related reports for the above activities and carry out other responsibilities assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biomolecular Science, Mechanical Engineering, Bio-medical Engineering or related disciplines;
  • Hands-on experience in constructing sensors, biosensors and wearable health sensors;
  • Experience in sensor implementation for human studies;
  • Knowledge of data analytics;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Familiarity, participation preferred, in federal grant funding and other programs to commercialize research includingI-Corps/SBIR/STTR
  • Knowledge of best practices in commercialization
