Intel's aggressive technology development roadmap is requiring the development of new transistors, and interconnect reliability stress systems.

In this role, you will work closely with the Technology Development Quality and Reliability TD Q and R team to develop and implement new wafer and package level reliability test capabilities - Creating new ways to characterize the reliability of transistors, interconnects, memory cells/arrays, and other devices, enabling reliability data collection on current and future technology nodes.

You will be joining the Reliability Labs TD RLTD team Which is part of CQN Corporate Quality Network Intel's Quality and Reliability organization. RLTD is a small professional and dedicated engineering team which works independently and in conjunction with TD Q and R and product development teams across Intel to develop and implement new reliability stress capabilities that are needed for the development and certification of Intel's most advanced process technologies. Our stress labs are inside Intel's Ronler Acres Campus in Hillsboro, OR, on the outskirts of Portland in the beautiful Pacific North West.



The Reliability Lab TD Engineer will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • The technology development of new reliability test systems and methods.
  • Owning from proof-of-concept test benches, through the maturation of those POCs to production-ready volume test solutions.
  • Integration of new hardware with custom automation software; contributing to the requirements definition and project management of tester software development.
  • Install, use, and debug various electrical measurement tools such as parametric analyzers (e.g. Agilent 4156, Keithley 4200), SMUs, oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, etc.
  • Pulling data from a database, and scripting the analysis of that reliability stress data.
  • Engaging with and technically supporting semiconductor device reliability discussions around tester device reliability data.
  • Additionally, scripting to automate repetitive data analysis, and a simple HW test will be required.
  • Need to learn the mechanical side of our lab - Probers, package assembly line, hand tools, etc.
  • Conducting mechanical tool install/debug/repairs that require physical activity will be a core part of the role.
  • Vendor engagement and management in collaboration toward test system development.

This is an entry-level position and will be compensated accordingly. You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience would be obtained through a combination of prior education level classes, and current level school classes, projects, research and relevant previous job and/or internship experience.

Minimum Qualifications:


The candidate must possess at least one of the 2 following degrees plus the years of experience determined for each degree in the areas specified below:

1. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, with 2+ years of work experience in below areas.

2. Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, with 1+ years of work experience in below areas.

Areas of expertise:

  • Hands-on electrical characterization, measurement, and/or debug.
  • Python, or other languages and programming IDEs e.g. C++, LabView, or Visual Studio is acceptable.


  •  6+ months of experience with Device physics and/or device characterization.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic semiconductor reliability failure mechanisms e.g. hot-carrier, bias-temperature-instability, electromigration, etc.
  • Experience in writing software and scripts for automation and visualization of data: measurement analysis, plotting, and measurement data statistical comparison.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, and hypothesis testing.
  • Experience with JMP, JSL, and SQL preferred.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication process, test, assembly or validation preferred.
