The Reliability Engineer of Reliability Assessment, Performance Analysis (RAPA), and Technical Services (TS) coordinate projects and initiatives that cross multiple program areas within RAPA (Performance Analysis (PA), Reliability Assessments (RA), Modeling & Studies data validation, joint analysis efforts, etc.). This position will also support and provide structure to SERC's planning studies, and modeling improvement efforts across the eastern interconnection.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide facilitation and direction to SERC stakeholder groups. Represent SERC on Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) initiatives, working groups, and task-forces that support SERC's mission.
  • Lead efforts to apply project management techniques and controls to increase efficiency and effectiveness of SERC's modeling and study processes and procedures.
  • Closely work with SERC stakeholders to develop models, methods, and scenarios to address trends in known and emerging risks to reliability and security of the SERC footprint.
  • Provide support in performing studies for the SERC region system reliability including steady-state, stability, and short circuit and independent assessments based upon data and study results.
  • Develop relationships with neighboring Regional Entities (RE) to establish coordination efforts and improve existing modeling processes
  • Lead discussions with stakeholders, NERC and the Regions to communicate SERC's position on various topics concerning planning and operations in order to find a resolution where necessary
  • Facilitate discussions and lead internal regional analysis and data validation efforts across the organization.
  • Ensure the appropriate processing, data retention, and confidentiality of information.
  • Participate as a resource to SERC's reliability risk management program concerning risks identified through data, trends, studies, and assessments. Assist in identifying, analyzing and communicating trends for awareness.
  • Participate in the program's strategic visioning and support implementation plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. Master's degree or Power systems focus is preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of electric utility industry experience in transmission planning and policy is required.
  • Experience with program management preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the electric utility regulatory environment and system analysis gained through a history of involvement with regulated utility activities, experience in system modeling, performing dynamics, and short circuit study is required.
  • Working knowledge of the protection and control systems is preferred.
  • Experience with computer programs used in transmission planning studies such as power flow, short circuit, and transient stability is required.
  • Demonstrated capability to apply inductive and deductive reasoning to draw sound systems evaluation conclusions.
  • Working knowledge of the NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management, cross-functional teams and external stakeholders Excellent written and oral expression and comprehension with the ability to make concise summaries of issues and discussions to support improvement strategies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work assignments in the best interest of the company
  • Demonstrated abilities regarding conflict avoidance, resolution and problem solving
  • Ability to be self-directed and exercise independent and insightful judgment
  • Some overnight travel is required.

SALARY/BENEFITS:
