Regional Reliability Specialist – Minneapolis, MN – Negotiable Annual Base Compensation w/full benefits – Relocation Package Offered – Up to 50% Regional Travel Required



The Regional Reliability Specialist is responsible for supporting multiple Plants to enable and deliver on a sustainable asset maintenance program. The Reliability Specialist must champion Michael Foods, Inc. (MFI) Reliable Manufacturing Program, MFI Business Sponsorship Program, MFI Internship Program, MFI Apprentice Programs and assist in their development at the Plant level.  This role requires up to 50% travel to Plant sites to drive solutions to complex technical issues and affect change management. The role will have a limited group of highly technical and certified predictive lead technicians as direct reports.

The Reliability Specialist is responsible for partnering with their responsible Plant leadership team to establish a continuous improvement culture in maintenance. The position provides support, coaching, training and development of asset care practices within the Plant. These asset care program should result in sustained proactive planned maintenance that enables positive results in availability, performance, uptime, cost and utilization.


  • Promote, and foster MFI culture, values and principles. 

  • Adherence to Plant safety, food safety, sanitation standards, and following all GMP guidelines, including wearing required PPE.

  • Ability to conduct investigation, and report communications accurately of all incidents and work-related injuries related to EHS policy and procedure.

  • Take an active leadership role on an EHS Safety Team

  • Develop safe work procedures as required and ensure adherence to procedures.

Core Competencies

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by partnering with plant teams and corporate capital team to ensure improvement in equipment uptime and OEE, while reducing annual direct manufacturing expenses.

  • Transforming organization from reactive organization to a proactive organization through utilization of MFI Reliable Manufacturing Strategy and provide inputs to improve the overall company’s strategic plan

    • Develop effective utilization of conditional monitoring and/or predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies (vibration, thermal imaging, oil analysis, ultrasound…etc.) designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems.

    • Lead and perform multiple analyses for unreliable assets based on economic evaluation.

    • Develop precision maintenance training including development of material for the training and conducting the training for mechanics and operators.

    • Propose and monitor key performance indicators in accordance with Maintenance Best Practices and encourage cross-functional alignment to close KPI gaps.

    • Collaborate with the reliability team to update existing procedures/technical guidelines including establishing any new guidelines and standards. 

    • Drive Conformance to Reliable Manufacturing Standards with Plant personnel through partnership and education

  • Provide technical expertise and mentoring to technical personnel and engineering team as required

  • Ensure the implementation of all repairs/modifications resulting from assessment, audit and continuous improvement activity.

  • Perform audits and inspections at contractor’s shops to ensure quality of new and repaired rotating equipment.

  • Advise on selection of mechanical equipment based on reliability improvements through industry codes, standards and best practices

  • Advise on specifications and recommend design modifications for equipment such as processing, packaging and utilities equipment. 

  • Provide input to the three-year Capital Plan by applying value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions for equipment.

  • Occasionally supervise contractor engineering professionals that may be assigned to support different reliability programs.


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited University or equivalent technical experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Rotating Equipment in a Reliability, Maintenance or Engineering roles

  • Utilize Critical thinking: use of logic, reasoning, and calculations to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to solve equipment problems

  • Knowledge and understanding of predictive technologies for rotating equipment evaluations

  • RCM Practitioner and RCFA Methodology to identify the casual factors for component, equipment or system failures. Must have Applied knowledge of RCM2 (Reliability Centered Maintenance) practices.

  • Strong knowledge of API, ASME, and ANSI specs/standards, specifically API 610/682/686 (Certifications is an added advantage)

  • Must have Continuous Improvement Knowledge (5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, TPM, RCA)

  • 480v 3 phase knowledge required. Knowledge and practice of NFPA 70E is preferred.

  • Skilled or Knowledge in mechanical power transmission equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems,

  • process pumps, control valves, sensors, positioners, actuators, manifolds, vacuum systems, air filtration, lubrication devices and basic electrical AC/DC Troubleshooting and related system.

  • Skilled or Knowledge in welding, sanitary welding, pipe fitting, soldering, rigging application and use of mechanical tools, hand tools, and power tools.

  • Skilled or Knowledge in machine shop to fabricate within specific tolerance using various measuring equipment Vernier, calipers, and depth gauges etc.

  • Read and decipher mechanical drawings, schematics, and piping diagrams.

  • Experience or knowledge of personal/process control computers, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and Networking devices a plus. Allen Bradley experiences a plus.
