Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Educate and inform Washington state policy makers, Washington state agency officials, and Washington state organizations regarding SEL impacts of regulation, laws, and policy.
  • Identify, analyze, and make strategic recommendations on public policy issues primarily impacting SEL operations in the region.
  • Build and manage relationships, and act as a liaison with state officials, staff and local and regional policymakers and government entities.
  • Manage relationships with various regional trade associations, state chambers, and other industry stakeholders; drive policy development with these groups to work cooperatively with SEL's legislative and regulatory policies.
  • Identify speaking/testimony opportunities for SEL executives and subject matter experts to share company experience and knowledge for key policy development.
  • Regularly update SEL employees/leaders regarding possible, imminent, and current applicable government impacts on company business.
  • Serve as an integral and participative member of SEL government affairs team.
  • Always advocate for free, flat, fair, and open business environments.
  • Model and teach SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World-Class Manufacturing principles.
  • Understand. Create. Simplify.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in related field
  • Extensive experience in government relations, public affairs or similar field or related industry
  • Willingness to travel approximately 35% of the time
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire and proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Corporate or association lobbying experience
  • Strong public affairs experience in Washington state

Location Information

This role is flexible to work either in the Pullman, Washington office (SEL's headquarters office) or in Olympia, Washington.
