We have multiple openings for Radiographic/Ultrasonic Technologists to provide technical support for radiographic and/or ultrasonic operations utilizing various NDE systems. You will work as part of the Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) team by operating, maintaining, designing, building imaging and providing other technical support to the mission as needed. This will involve working with hazardous materials such as radioactive materials and high explosives. Occasional travel and overtime may be required to meet program goals. This position is in the Materials Engineering Division (MED) within the Engineering Directorate.

These positions will be filled at either the 533.2 or 533.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Perform moderately complex NDE operations and maintenance using various radiographic/ultrasonic scanning and detection equipment.
- Utilize a variety of radiographic techniques including radiographic film (RT), direct read flat panel detectors (DR), phosphor storage imaging plates computed radiography (CR), computed tomography (CT), and flash radiography (FXR), and/or:
- Utilize a variety of ultrasonic techniques including contact, phased array, and immersion systems.
- Provide general technical support to engineers, scientists and other technologists involved in research and development projects containing common, non-hazardous materials such as aluminum, steel, composites, etc. while regularly interacting with LLNL and non-LLNL programs providing NDE support and guidance.
- Participate in and maintain training/qualification program for high explosives handling certification.
- Perform moderately complex system upgrades, testing equipment, radiation surveys, and interlock systems checks.
- Provide general mechanical and fabrication support while applying general engineering principles to moderately complex technical functions in order to solve radiographic and technical problems.
- Ensure that working areas are kept clean, uncluttered, and orderly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition, at the 533.3 Level
- Propose and implement complex solutions for conducting operations in a manner that improves capability and quality.
- Propose improvements to safety, security, and efficiency.
- Act independently, under minimal direction, and/or direct others to ensure work is conducted in an efficient manner.

Qualifications
- Associate degree in engineering technology, electro-optics technology, or equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
- Fundamental knowledge and experience needed to interpret NDE codes, standards, recommended practices, and techniques.
- Fundamental knowledge and experience with a variety of moderately complex radiographic and/or ultrasonic techniques.
- Ability to operate various moderately complex hand and power tools.
- Basic experience with personal computers using MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and/or PowerPoint or equivalent software.
- Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to work constructively independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to certify and maintain certification as a Radiographic Testing (RT)/Ultrasonic (UT) Level II per the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) or equivalent.
- Flexibility to travel and work overtime hours on occasion to meet program goals and objectives .

In Addition, at the 533.3 Level
- Extensive experience as a certified RT/UT Level II or hold an RT/UT Level III certification per ASNT SNT-TC-1A or equivalent.
- Fundamental knowledge and experience working with Excel and PowerPoint software/computer aided drafting/design (CAD) software.
- In-depth knowledge of NDE codes, standards, recommended practices, and techniques including advanced knowledge of material fabrication processes and methods with the ability to make recommendations and/or direct the work of others.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
