Job Description

The Sensors & Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking entry and junior level engineers and scientists who are interested in a career in RF sensors applied to air and missile defense applications. As a researcher in the Air and Missile Defense Division (AMDD), candidates will support the assessment, improvement, and development of signal and data processing algorithms applied in Army and Ballistic Missile Defense radars and in associated command and control, battle management, and communications systems. In supporting our research, candidates will have exposure to all aspects of modern phased array radar systems.

Candidates will work closely with senior researchers and will develop expertise in one or more of the following sensor disciplines: target tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, target discrimination, radar resource management, radar systems analysis, electronic protection, and radar signal processing. Job Duties

  • Supporting and leading applied research efforts.
  • Developing and evaluating radar signal and data processing algorithms.
  • Analyzing and evaluating sensor system performance.
  • Assessing the impact of electronic attack threats and developing electronic protection techniques.
  • Supporting radar test planning and data analysis.
  • Generating briefings and technical reports.
  • Managing tasks and projects to include budgets, staff, and deliverables.
  • Supporting business development activities to include the generation of briefings, white papers, and proposals.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May 2022
  • No previous work experience is required
  • Candidates should have a fundamental understanding of one or more of the following subject areas:
    • Control theory,
    • Signal processing,
    • Random processes,
    • Fourier analysis, or
    • Parameter estimation.
  • Candidates should be proficient in MATLAB
  • Candidates must be excellent communicators and have a willingness to brief their work to outside organizations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • Masters or PhD degree in either Engineering, Math, or Physics
  • Experience with radar systems and signal processing (via academic course work or current or previous employment)
  • Software development experience, proficiency in C/C++, and proficiency in version control software such as GIT

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
