The Missile Systems Department is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer. You will need to perform architecture development, electronic system design, system integration and test of flight avionics and missile systems in support of prototype development flight testing. You should have experience with typical avionics subsystems to include; power, telemetry, firing systems, navigation, guidance & control systems, flight safety systems, etc. You may need to travel to support program interactions, system integration activities and flight testing at remote test facilities.

Department Description:

The Missile Systems Department leads and supports programs associated with the development of the Nation’s needs in the areas of Missile Defense, Strike and Responsive Launch. The work enables the development of Missile Defense Systems, Conventional Prompt Strike Systems, R&D Rocket Systems as well as Responsive Low Earth Orbit Launch Vehicles. We assume responsibility for the design, development and demonstration of various missile and launch vehicle systems by applying individual technologies and combining them into system level solutions that meet the needs of the customer. The work is dynamic and involves extensive interaction within Sandia National Laboratories as well as outside agencies.

  • You will have an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in STEM and a bachelor’s degree in STEM, plus two or more years related experience.
  • You will have experience with Avionics Component Development and Testing as well as Ground or Flight Testing.
  • You will have experience with electrical systems analysis, qualification, acceptance, integration and testing.
  • You will have experience with telemetry systems design, development and implementation to include Format Development, Component Test, Link Analysis, Telemetry Decom Programming and Data Analysis.
  • Experience with electronic design tools (PSPICE, etc.)
  • Experience with Design Definition, Configuration Management, Requirements development and tracking.
  • Current and active DOE Q-level security clearance.

  • Electronic Systems Testing and Troubleshooting Experience.
  • Embedded Systems Development.
  • Ground Support Systems Development and Use.
  • Cable design.
  • Software development.
  • Proven experience working in a Team Environment.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance to start.

Position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e.g., DOD, to be considered for this position.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
