Job Description

GTRI’s Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research (CIPHER) Lab seeks a full-time undergraduate intern for the spring 2020 semester.  You will work with the Quantum Systems Division to develop and maintain the Quantum Testbed. The research will involve rebuilding an ion trapping experimental setup to be used for implementing 3-4 qubit quantum algorithms. The intern will be responsible for performing standard quantum lab tasks such as alignment and use of lasers, development of lab electronics, testing and characterizing custom pieces of control equipment, as well as the programming, modeling, and simulation necessary for those tasks.

Required Minimum Qualifications


  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 3.0 higher cumulative GPA
  • Be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in an internship program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications and tools
  • Basic lab skills to include using oscilloscopes, lasers, optical set-ups, electronics
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to technical and non-technical team members
