Job Description

Components Research (CR) delivers innovative device technologies and architectures to enable Intel's roadmap. Our job is to invent, to demonstrate, and to develop game-changing and revolutionary processing and packaging technologies to enable Intels process technology leadership. Were is looking for a PhD level engineer to characterize quantum devices at low temperature, as well as perform simple computations of quantum circuits in dilution refrigerators.

Responsibilities are the following:

  • Primary study will be on spin qubits in silicon.
  • Hands-on expertise with device electrical measurements is required.
  • Experience with cryogenic and vacuum systems highly desired, in particular dilution refrigerators.
  • You will need to efficiently communicate and collaborate daily with other groups to determine and validate success criteria.
  • Independent design and follow-through of unique, enabling ideas is a key expectation from this role.
  • This position includes overseeing measurement equipment and collaboration with external research groups and vendor programs.

You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through schoolwork and/or classes and/or project work and/or internships and/or military training and/or work experience.

Minimum requirements:

Must posses a Ph.D. in Physics or Electrical Engineering.
2+ yrs of experience (through your Ph.D. research) in the following:

  • Electrical measurement of devices
  • Vacuum systems
  • Measuring qubits or quantum dots
  • Cryogenic systems
  • Microwave circuits
  • 3+ 1st author publications


  • Understanding of CMOS devices and device physics at low temperature
  • Programming, preferably using Python
