PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER

The Public Relations Manager leads media relations engagement in support of business priorities for Raytheon Missiles & Defense, a Raytheon Technologies company.

The roles focus is the development and execution of media engagement strategies for the integrated business communications team and key campaign priorities. This critical team role requires a candidate who is proactive, creative, action oriented and willing to immerse him/herself in the business.

This individual must have the executive presence to influence and drive action across a diverse set of internal constituents. Strong writing skills are essential, as the PR manager is also responsible for writing, editing, and issuing all RMD news releases and media advisories.

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Director of Public Relations and Public Affairs for Raytheon Missiles & Defense. Remote applicants will be considered, but D.C.-based candidates are preferred.

Responsibilities

Media Engagement

  • Serve as the primary RMD media relations liaison with key defense, technology and business media; foster and grow those relationships

  • Work in close coordination with integrated business communication leads to reactively respond to media requests and proactively secure media placements in print, broadcast and online media

  • Develop media relations strategies and plans aligned with business priorities that communicate key messaging to external stakeholders

  • Determine appropriate assets (e.g., video, multimedia, etc.) necessary to drive coverage and partner with internal teams to develop those assets

  • Partner with corporate public relations to identify top-tier press opportunities around major milestones and campaign initiatives

  • Develop and execute a strategy for engaging key press and other influencers via social media channels

  • Lead PR engagement efforts around key tradeshows, as needed, by creating thoughtful, timely, collaborative plans that align with business objectives

  • Sound judgment and business maturity leveraged to protect the company's reputation during crisis situations.

Expert Writing

  • In partnership with integrated business communications leads, author all RMD press releases and media advisories to ensure the highest level of quality control and alignment with AP style guidelines

  • Identify and develop storylines/pitches that support RMD business priorities and/or communicate the organizations technology and innovation leadership

  • Partner with internal leads to hone campaign messaging in support of content creation (e.g., backgrounders, presentations, prep documents)

  • Draft, maintain, and revise a RMD talking point repository aligned with key business efforts

  • Work with brand journalists to develop themes to support successful content creation and placement; write/identify resources for bylined articles and OpEds

Monitoring, Analytics and Reporting

  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting RMD programs and make appropriate, proactive recommendations regarding evolving story lines

  • Work with analytics lead to monitor, analyze and communicate PR results around priority campaign efforts on a quarterly basis

  • Use insights gained from data analytics to evolve and strengthen PR strategies and tactics

  • Monitor important topics related to key business pursuits and use information gathered to inform and strengthen PR strategies and tactics

  • Monitor key competitors media engagement coverage to assess opportunities for counter messaging

  • Remote Position, with travel up to 15-20% of the time as needed

Required Skills:

  • 10 years of related experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility

  • Experience writing (press releases, media advisories, etc.) and strategic communication, a working knowledge of AP style

  • Media relations experience within the aerospace and defense industry

  • Previous experience in a role requiring internal and external contacts for crisis management, brand management, and/or reputation management

  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related fields

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build teamwork and trust

This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
