Job Description

GTRI is seeking a Project Scheduler to provide project scheduling support to research & development engineering projects. The successful candidate will provide support to one or more teams of fifteen to twenty (15-20) members each. A technical Project Director (PD) is assigned to each project and will retain the final project authority. The scheduler will work alongside the PD to develop and manage cost and technical schedules and track project progress.

Job Duties

  • Develop and maintain project schedules using Microsoft Project
  • Assist the PD by identifying the project critical path, identifying cost and schedule risks, and developing and tracking related risk mitigation plans
  • Review SOW/PWS to identify tasks, milestones, deliverables, etc. as appropriate for inclusion in the project schedule
  • Assist task leads in developing detailed task breakdowns and identifying task dependencies
  • Assist the PD and task leads by identifying and maintaining project progress metrics
  • Assist PD by implementing standard project management tools and processes as appropriate for the project
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Daily tasks consist of 95% program management support and 5% customer interface. A successful candidate will be able to develop or contribute to the management portion of research and development proposals. The candidate must be resourceful, take initiative, and manage autonomy with expectations.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelors in Engineering, Science, Technology, Business, Policy, Administration, or a related field of study

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Business, Policy, Administration, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Business, Policy, Administration, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Business, Policy, Administration, or a related field of study

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in project scheduling with Microsoft Project
  • Experience in project planning/scheduling within Military/DoD environments

Consideration for the Rank of Researcher II may be given to those holding a Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Business, Policy, Administration, or a related field of study and 10+ years of experience including:

  • 10+ years of experience in project scheduling with Microsoft Project
  • Experience in project planning/scheduling within Military/DoD environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience
  • PMP Certification
  • Six Sigma Certification

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
