Project Engineer II, III, or Senior Engineer - Protection

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of power system focus area* and related SEL products in order to complete significant assignments.
2. Lead the preparation and presentation of technical proposals for SEL equipment, services and systems.
3. Provide technical leadership to project teams to resolve customer concerns and foster greater customer satisfaction.
4. Plan and conduct assignments, generally involving large and critical projects and operates with considerable autonomy.
5. Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget while focusing on quality and safety.
6. Oversee the installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices.
7. Solve technical issues and malfunctions and identify/analyze any undesirable trends.
8. Assume a project management role on assigned projects.
9. Develop and mentor engineers and technicians.
10. Supervisory duties as assigned.
11. Serve as a subject matter expert for SEL marketing, sales, application engineering and development activities.
12. Continuously identify, measure, and improve processes.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related degree
Professional Engineers License or equivalent
Ten or more years of experience with electrical power systems or industrial automation system practices
Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge of protection, integration and/or automation applications for electric power systems and understands more than one focus area.
Excellent technical training, speaking and writing skills
Extensive experience with electric power transmission, distribution, and/or generation systems
Willing to travel domestically and internationally
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications
M.S. in Engineering

**Focus areas = Protection, Automation, Design & Commissioning
Protection = system protection, protective relays and their applications, settings, and testing
Automation = software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices
Design = analyze technical specifications; create detailed physical and electrical designs, bills of materials, and job estimates
Commissioning = perform commissioning and site acceptance testing in the field, train and assist customers with installation, commissioning and operation of devices and systems (requires traveling more than 50% of the time)
Special Protection Systems (SPS) = integrate knowledge of power system automation (relay communication protocols and technologies) with protection to propose, design (RTDS), test (FAT), and implement complete grid solutions for customers while effectively communicating, training, and facilitating project progress
