Job Description

The Parallel Computing Lab (PCL) is seeking research scientists to develop programming systems that support highly productive programming with code that is portable and exploits a large fraction of available performance from Intel-based systems. Solving this challenging problem will require the full range of programming system technologies including traditional compiler techniques, design of new languages/APIs, advanced runtime systems, and machine programming. This is a research position to explore solutions that will shape future markets 3-5 years out (or even longer in some cases). At the same time, we are a group that "builds stuff" so the ability to engineer quality code and contribute to open-source projects is important.

The work would take place inside the Data-centric computing group in PCL. PCL investigates emerging compute- and data-intensive applications in artificial intelligence, traditional high-performance computing, big data computing, computational biology, physical simulation, and large-scale optimization problems. We collaborate with leading academic and industry co-travelers to understand the hardware and software implications for Intel's parallel processing platforms. The Data-centric computing Group takes the PCL-mindset and applies it to programming systems for problems that involve manipulation of largescale data sets. Our work focusses on three broad research problems: (1) Systems that let performance oriented programmers "keep their codebase in Python", (2) applications and supporting algorithms for key markets, and (3) core technologies for cloud native data management systems.

The successful candidate should exhibit the following behavioral traits:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

This is an entry level position and compensation will be given accordingly
