expected to start in the summer semester 2021 or commencing as soon as possible. 


Responsibilities in Teaching and Research:


Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences seeks to appoint a candidate for a professorship, which involves a high proportion of research. In practice, this means that the position entails a reduced teaching load, which may amount to a maximum of 50 percent of regular teaching duties. The reduced teaching load is initially limited to a period of five years with the option of a further extension period.


We are looking for a colleague with the ability to teach foundations of informatics involving students of different disciplinary backgrounds who also teaches methods of informatics including their various applications. Teaching will focus on the fields of Software Engineering, Software Architecture and Algorithms. Within the specialization of “Applied Informatics for Life” the incumbent will develop and teach modules in undergraduate and postgraduate studies in both German and English language in order to complement the already existing study courses on the
bachelor’s level and contribute to expanding the range of the university’s already existing master study courses.

The successful candidate will bring together demands in the field of life sciences with the latest technologies in software development to generate pioneering innovations in the field. Applications include bioinformatics as well as biotechnology, brewing technology but also adjacent areas such as environmental or agricultural sciences. The future professor shall engage in applied research with a focus on the analysis and modelling of software as well as on the selection and assessment of suitable technologies for the development of modern software systems. In addition, the incumbent shall develop new algorithms based on the requirements of a particular challenge and examine the suitability of the methods used. Developing new methods and technologies for the computer-based analysis of complex data in the field of life sciences is an additional goal of this professorship. We expect the incoming professor to net-work with existing research institutions and competence centers of the university, especially those with a focus on digitalization.


The university expects the successful candidate to play an active role in the further development of applied research. Responsibilities of the professorship include the supervision of internships, project papers and theses, teaching courses in English language as well as participation in academic self-administration. The ability to teach specialized topics in adjacent fields of research is highly desired. Your Profile:
Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences is looking for an individual with a collaborative working style and a university degree in informatics or in the natural and engineering sciences with an appropriate specialization. We expect the incoming professor to have several years of successful professional practice in informatics or in a related field and we ask that you enjoy teaching and interacting with students in the classroom. You also bring the didactic skills and necessary experience to apply the tools of a modern educational environment
such as e-learning.


We furthermore expect you to have specialized knowledge in the application of current methods of informatics as well as practical research competence in the aforementioned areas. In addition, we request that you have  experience in the acquisition of third-party funding, in project management and/or the supervision and management of interdisciplinary projects as well as in the goal-oriented coordination of working groups with different thematic priorities.


Requirements:
1. a completed first university degree
2. pedagogical aptitude
3. particular ability for scientific and scholarly work as proven by a doctoral degree or comparable academic qualification (in German: “Gutachten über promotionsadäquate Leistungen”)
4. Furthermore, we require expertise in the application or development of scientific findings and methods obtained during a period of at least five years of professional practice after graduation from university. Of these, at least three years must be in a field outside university. In special cases, professional experience outside university may be recognized if you have acquired a significant part of your professional experience within a period of at least five years in a position characterized by a cooperation between a university and a professional field
outside university.
