The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University and the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering seek applicants for an engineering tenure-track or tenured faculty position with specific interest in renewable energy and photovoltaic materials, devices and systems. Appointments may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2021.  While the tenure home may be in any of the schools within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering is currently the most involved in the interest areas of this search.  Successful candidates will be encouraged to expand expertise and collaborations in these areas.

Areas of interest include perovskite photovoltaic materials and devices, their scaling, manufacturing and reliability for single junction and multi-junction applications.  In addition, modeling and control of renewable energy systems and aggregated storage devices, system analysis of renewable energy technologies and impact evaluation. Collaborations across the Schools of Engineering and the University are strongly encouraged. The originality and potential impact of each candidate’s work are higher priorities than the specific area of research. 

We seek applicants who will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching and research, and help the University to achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, valuing entrepreneurship and conducting use-inspired research. Faculty members in the Fulton Schools are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of graduate and undergraduate courses, advise both undergraduate and graduate student research and projects and undertake service activities. 

Arizona State University is the lead institution of two related multi-university research centers: the Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC), which has existed since 1996 and currently has 12 university members and 26 industry members, as well as the Quantum Energy and Sustainable Solar Technologies (QESST) center, which started in 2011 as an NSF-DOE funded engineering research center.

Requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in engineering, materials science, physics or a closely related field by the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated evidence of research capability and evidence of teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate’s rank. 

Desired qualifications:

  • Record of impactful publications;
  • Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative, transdisciplinary approach to research and teaching in an engineering context;
  • Commitment to mentoring students and delivering courses in multiple technology-enhanced formats;
  • Commitment to curriculum development and innovative pedagogy; and
  • Demonstrated appreciation for entrepreneurial activities.
