The School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University, and the Center for Bioelectronics and Biosensors in the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University seek applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position with a specific interest in signal and image processing and machine learning for digital health.  Appointments may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2020.  While the tenure home may be in any of the schools within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering is currently the most involved in the interest areas of this search.  Successful candidates are expected to fit with the research of the Biodesign Institute and will have significant opportunities for collaborations in the areas of bioinformatics, kinesiology, behavioral health, and speech and hearing science in the College of Health Solutions.

Examples of research areas include: 

  • Signal and image processing, and explainable machine learning models for biomedical applications
  • Digital biomarkers for early detection and objective tracking of disease
  • Human-centered sensing; optimizing medical interventions through the use of analytics
  • Validation and verification of digital technology in healthcare
  • Data science and health applications
  • Multi-scale modeling and optimization for healthcare applications

We seek applicants who will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching and research, and help the University to achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, valuing entrepreneurship and conducting use-inspired research. Faculty members in the Fulton Schools are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of graduate and undergraduate courses, advise both undergraduate and graduate student research and projects and undertake service activities.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned Ph.D., or terminal degree in an area related to digital health, such as computer science, electrical engineering, bioengineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment
  • Demonstrated evidence of research capability and evidence of teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate’s rank

Desired qualifications:

  • A record of impactful publications
  •  Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative, transdisciplinary approach to research and teaching in an engineering context
  • A commitment to mentoring students and delivering courses in multiple technology-enhanced formats
  • A commitment to curriculum development and innovative pedagogy; and a demonstrated appreciation for entrepreneurial activities
