The MEMS Product Development Engineer will take new products from prototype to production by developing the silicon wafer fabrication processes required for the next generation of MEMS pressure sensors and accelerometers.  This will include front-end wafer fabrication processes and back-end processes including die level sensor testing.  The candidate should have hands-on experience and be able to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team to develop new products and transfer them to production.  They need to be capable of performing a failure analysis and come up with creative solutions to product issues.  Knowledge of MEMS pressure sensors and accelerometers is required.  This position reports to the MEMS Design & Development Manager.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine wafer fabrication processes and recipes for the development and manufacture of silicon MEMS pressure sensor and accelerometer products
  • Develop process flows for new sensors that are suitable for transfer into a production environment
  • Follow prototype lots through the fabrication process including identifying and solving process issues
  • Design and analyze DOE’s to evaluate process corners and set appropriate process tolerances
  • Perform failure analysis and yield analysis for prototype products
  • Ability to transfer a product from the development phase to production
  • Develop die testing protocols for use in engineering and production
  • Assist manufacturing with failure analysis and yield improvement, including identifying new equipment and developing processes for that equipment
  • Document new processes in written procedures and support training of operators

Job Specifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or similar fields with at least 5 years related experience
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Hands-on experience with silicon MEMS wafer fabrication processes and equipment including photolithography, dry and wet etching, DRIE, thin film deposition, diffusion, and wafer bonding
  • Working knowledge of process metrology tools and techniques
  • Capable of working independently but must have good communication and collaboration skills to also work as part of a cross-functional team
  • Strong knowledge of the operation of silicon pressure sensors and accelerometers
  • Knowledge of sensor testing methods is desirable
  • Experience with electrical test equipment such as power supplies, DMM’s, parameter analyzers, etc
  • Experience with Six Sigma and lean manufacturing concepts is preferred
  • Experience with data processing, SPC, and six sigma tools to drive decision making
  • Experience with process simulation tools is a plus
