Apple is looking for a highly motivated mechanical engineer with finite element analysis (FEA) expertise to join the Mac Silicon Integration team. The Mac Silicon Integration team works to seamlessly integrate world-class SOCs (system on a chip) into the next generation of computers. You will be part of a cross-functional design team responsible for conceiving, designing, evaluating, and producing exciting new products based on Apple silicon. Through analysis you will help to optimize those designs and understand/mitigate their potential failure modes due to thermal and mechanical loads.

Key Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in static and dynamic structural FEA analysis (preferably in handheld/portable/wearable electronic products)
• Expertise in solid mechanics, mechanics of materials, and dynamics
• Experience building and calibrating non-linear material models
• Self motivated to identify and close design issues
• Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment
• Outstanding verbal and visual communication skills
• Passion for creating innovative, high quality products
• Desire to work in a team environment

You will be part of a cross-functional design team responsible for conceiving, designing, evaluating, and producing exciting new products based on Apple silicon. Through analysis you will help to optimize those designs and understand/mitigate their potential failure modes due to thermal and mechanical loads.

Computer industry experience not required; serious consideration will be given to qualified candidates from medical, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace or other fields with relevant technology and development models.

Education & Experience

MS/PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or similar preferred

Additional Requirements

• Knowledge of Abaqus, Ansys, and/or Comsol
• Knowledge of fatigue analysis
• Experience in product design a plus but not a requirement
• Proficiency with high volume manufacturing processes
• Experience in static and dynamic Finite Element Analysis
• Experience with FEA software such as Abaqus or similar
• Experience in using good modeling practices, including model validation techniques
• Experience in failure modeling of different classes of materials
• Experience in testing including methods using Digital Image Correlation, Universal Testing Machines, or Dynamic Mechanical Analysis
