The Printed Circuit Board Designer is responsible for the schematic capture and layout of printed circuit boards.  This includes the creation of new components, the design of board layer stackup and mechanical details, management of Bills of Materials, and the maintanance of the component library.  The designer is also responsible for creating and maintaining detail drawings, creating and issuing Engineering Change Notices (ECN), and developing packages used for quotation purposes.  The designer interfaces with engineers to understanding circuit function and uses this information to optimize component placement, board layout, and mechanical design.  The designer may also assist with component obsolescence issues and value engineering improvement initiatives.  Other responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

This position reports into the PDS business unit.  AMETEK PDS is a trusted OEM supplier of components and systems for power generation and distribution, motion control, data acquisition, and cockpit instruments for the aerospace and defense industry. We are experts in the design and development of complex aircraft systems. We provide our customers with cutting-edge custom engineering solutions at the highest level of quality and service in the industry. The PDS business unit designs, manufactures and provides aftermarket services for starter generators, generator control units, motors, actuators, solid state power distribution systems & components, data acquisition and indicators for the commercial/military aerospace and ground vehicle markets.  We currently have facilities in four locations: Wichita, Kansas; Harleysville, Pennsylvania; Binghamton, New York; and Bangalore, India.


• PCB Schematic Capture, Component Placement and Circuit Layout for mixed signal boards including optimization for EMC/EMI and lightning
• Component drawing creation and maintenance
• Mechanical drawings as related to PCB design
• Creation of ECNs
• BOM Development
• Circuit Analysis
• Component Library Maintenance


• Software skills in C, Visual Studio, MatLab and familiarity with DO-178C are preferred but not required.
• Possesses good communications skills, both written and oral, and is comfortable presenting before an audience.   
• Proficiency in Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout.
• Circuit design for aerospace applications
• Understanding of PCB fabrication techniques and related IPC standards for board performance and quality.
• Strong understanding of placement and layout techniques for analog, digital, power and switching power supply circuits
• Familiarity with Solid Works and AutoCAD tool for drawing development
• Ability to interpret schematics and understand circuit function
• Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel
• Understanding of Oracle BOM management

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical discipline preferred) or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years of complex board design experience
