Raytheon Technologies Mechanical Products Team provides engineering design & development to a wide range of hardware in the Raytheon Missiles & Defense business. The Agile Hardware Solutions department is responsible for improving the cost competitiveness of the work products developed by the Mechanical Products Team, through both workforce efficiency and product affordability optimization.

Job Summary:

A focus of the Agile Hardware Solutions department is to work directly with Mechanical Engineering, Materials & Processes and Design & Drafting from the Mechanical Products Team, as well as our Operations, Quality and Supply Chain peers to implement mechanical producibility on new and emerging programs or upgrades to existing programs. Early engagement in the conceptual stage, and throughout the development process, ensures that our designs are optimized with respect to methods of manufacture and assembly. The Producibility Engineers within Agile Hardware Solutions are an essential part of the Integrated Product Teams (IPT), responsible for leading Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) workshops and other engagements with hardware manufacturers aimed at reducing product cost. The team develops and implements technical solutions to complex problems that require regular use of ingenuity, innovation, creativity and accountability to cost and schedule.

The Principle Hardware Producibility Engineers responsibilities to anticipate:
  • Proactive engagement with proposal teams prior to Gate 4 to develop strategies to achieve product affordability targets and bid scope for Producibility Team execution
  • Leadership of producibility scope and continuous support to the hardware development through detailed design, proof of design/manufacturing, low rate initial production and production phases
  • Product development support for prototyping, Proof of Design and Proof of Manufacturing builds, including working with internal and external suppliers to ensure efficiency
  • Leadership of formal and informal producibility engagements, such as Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), across multiple RMD products and programs
  • Support to program independent reviews and deep dives of high volume products as part of the Transition to Production Board, assessing the programs production readiness across numerous areas and alignment to cost targets
  • Communication of successes from the group up through program and functional management

Occasional travel will be required to support supplier activities and collaborate with department/directorate peers.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Material Science or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of prior practical and leadership experience in mechanical or electro-mechanical hardware design, manufacturing, and assembly
  • Certified Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) Lead or having led >5 DFMAs in the last 8 years
  • Demonstrated experience enabling manufacturing/fabrication process identification and feasibility assessment for hardware product designs
  • Notable experience in Geometric Dimension & Tolerance (GD&T) and the ASME Y14.100 family of documentation standards
  • Recent experience and working knowledge of material forming and fabrication capabilities and technologies such as machining, casting, forging, welding, brazing, injection molding or additive manufacturing
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Experience in multiple phases of product development, including system requirement definition, product design, documentation, build, qualification and product test
  • Ability to view, interrogate and manipulate Creo CAD models and documentation within the PTC Windchill Product Data Management (PDM) system
  • Experience with process capability trade studies and rapid prototyping
  • Experience in automated process capability estimation tools such as PCAT-Pro (Process Capability Analysis Toolset) and automated producibility analysis tools such as DFM-Pro (Design for Manufacturing)
  • Manual or CNC machine operation & CNC programming
  • Experience with aerospace and defense supply base manufacturing capabilities
  • Raytheon Six Sigma Principal Specialist or equivalent
  • Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Material Science or related discipline
