Job Summary:

The System-of-Systems (SoS) Modeling and Architecture (SMA) Directorate is the central focus for Systems of Systems Architecture, Operational Analysis, and Mission Systems Modeling & Architecture activities within RMD. SMA is responsible for defining cross-business customer needs, SoS mission and technical architectures, analysis of alternative architectures, and application of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using modeling methodologies and frameworks.


The SoS Architecture team is seeking a skilled architect with interest in pursuing the Raytheon Certified Architect career path. This position requires strong capabilities to drive technical solutions for multi-disciplined technical teams during all phases of capture and development.

As an Architect in the Systems of Systems Architecture (SoSA) Team, you will work directly with a Raytheon Certified Architect to gain experience in all phases of architecture activities, including:
  1. Perform Enterprise Understanding, Architecture Planning, and Mission Architecting as described in the Raytheon Enterprise Architecture Process (REAP)
  2. Understand the customers architecture needs, desired capabilities, architecture principles, and architecture context and scope,
  3. Plan architecture activities throughout the capture phase
  4. Analyze requirements and needs, identify alternative architectures to meet customer and business goals
  5. Define as-is and to-be architecture, definition of systems, interfaces, and information flow
  6. Model architectures using a modeling tool such as, Cameo.
You will also build SoSA team infrastructure to enable efficiency to include tools, templates, and contribute to the architecture repository.

This position can be in Tucson, Arizona or Tewksbury or Woburn, Massachusetts.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • You will perform architecture activities as defined in REAP, under the direct guidance of a Raytheon Certified Architect.
  • You will use MBSE tools to model architecture views for pursuits and programs.
  • You will contribute to an Architecture Authoritative Source of Truth repository, containing a cross-business source for architecture products.
  • You may travel up to 10% of the year Outside of the Continental United States (OCONUS), and up to 10% of the year within the Continental United States (CONUS), as required and based on customer needs.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM). An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for up to 3 years of experience
  • To be consider for a Principal Systems Architect you must have 8 years of professional experience in one or more of the following technical domains
    • Systems engineering, architecture, and/or design
    • System performance or Mission Planning and analysis
    • Algorithms and signal processing
    • Modeling and simulation (for example 6-DOF)
    • Software architecture, design, development, integration, and verification
  • Documented presentation and technical writing experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:

  • Experience creating & maintaining descriptive systems models (using SysML and/or DoDAF) with model-based systems engineering methods and tools
  • Experience with Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA).
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies.
  • Experience with Modeling Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Three (3) years systems engineering experience with exposure in at least one of the following:
    • Interfacing with customers
    • Developing CONOPS
    • Capture Engineering
    • Developing & Refining System Architecture
    • Developing & Refining System Requirements
    • Performing Functional & Physical Analyses
    • Performing Functional Allocation
    • Creating & Maintaining Models (SysML / DoDAF)
    • Creating & Maintaining Specifications
  • Experience working technical solutions in capture phases Gates 0-4 (strategy through proposal).
  • Familiarity with military systems; tactics, techniques, and procedures including design/planning process
  • Familiarity with DoD customer infrastructure
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering Product Development Cycle
  • Current US Secret security clearance.
