Job Summary:
Whole Life Engineering (WLE) is made up of several disciplines whose main objective is to influence hardware and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability, maintainability and economical ownership by the customer and end user.

Currently, the WLE team has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal Software Safety Engineer to join us on the Multifunction Radio Frequency Systems (MFRFS) team in McKinney, TX.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
As a Software Safety Engineer, you are an integral participant in the design/development process and are responsible for performing risk analyses to identify risks and influence design to eliminate or minimize safety hazards. In this role, you will work with a multi-disciplinary team responsible for both Software and System Safety. Specific responsibilities may include:

Developing Software Safety Requirements and providing requirements analysis and flow-down of Safety requirements and attributes
Conducting safety analyses and documenting results (i.e., Preliminary Hazard, Functional Hazard, Software/Firmware Hazard, Fault Trees, Safety Assessment Report, Hazard Tracking System)
Performing code analysis to determine whether code has the potential to command the hardware and contribute to a hazard
Participate/Support System Safety Working Groups, US Government Safety Review Boards (e.g., Software System Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP)), Technical Interchange Meetings, and Change Review Boards
Partner with and support the software development team on verification procedures to ensure safety significant requirements are tested with the proper level of rigor

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.

Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelors of Science degree in STEM.
An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience:
Master's is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience

8+ years technical experience as a System Safety Engineer
Planning, performing analyses, and reporting results

*This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:
Experience working with combat/weapon systems

Demonstrated experience executing a System Safety Program with Software Safety Analysis in a DoD environment

Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (including Agile and/or Waterfall)

Planning, performing analyses, and reporting results IAW MIL-STD-882
Embedded C/C++ on Linux; Qt on Linux experience
Familiarity with Programmable Logic Devices and firmware development practices
Ability to read/code in VDHL or related languages
Software/firmware requirements development and verification
Use of tools, such as Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) database tool, Clearcase, Windchill Product Data Manager (PDM), Jenkins
Experience with a wide application of technical theories and concepts related to system safety engineering and combat/weapon systems design
Familiarity with AMCOM 385-17, Joint Software System Safety Committee (JSSSC) Handbook, MIL-HDBK-454, MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-464, and MIL-STD-1425.
Experience with Software System Safety Technical Review Panels (SSSTRPs) or Software Materiel Release activities
Earned Value (EV) Management
Developing proposals and basis of estimates
Strong communication skills, verbal and written
Microsoft Office proficiency
