Job Description Summary:

Oshkosh Corporation is looking for a software developer with a strong background in cybersecurity to support secure software development for embedded, telematics and IoT projects. This position will take an active role in expanding our internal support for developing secure software systems. Activities such as developing processes and procedures, mentoring software developers, software peer reviews, securing embedded devices, and writing safe software will be used to expand our internal competency in these areas. In addition to the improving our software development activities, the position will be responsible for maintain the security of our software development environment. These duties include monitoring software applications and development tools for security related issues and associated patches, applying patches to development workstations and servers, securing workstations, servers and webservers. This position will work with general guidance and will interface with software engineers in multiple engineering groups, engineering project management office, and IT, in order to develop and maintain common practices across the entire organization.

The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded software developer with a background developing secure software products. Additionally, the candidate should have an IT background that includes administration of Windows, Linux and webservers with a focus on cybersecurity.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •        Write and maintain processes and procedures to facilitate secure software development practices
  •        Write requirements for secure software products
  •        Write and test secure software
  •        Mentor software developers on writing secure software
  •        Peer review secure software
  •        Monitor software applications and libraries for security vulnerabilities
  •        Update software applications on workstations and servers to maintain a secure development environment
  •        Secure embedded controllers, workstations and servers against security threats
  •        Translate cybersecurity standards into practical processes, procedures and internal standards


Basic Qualifications:

  •        5 to 10 years of experience relevant to this position
  •        Bachelor’s degree in a computer, software or engineering discipline
  •        Experience with software development on complex software systems where cybersecurity is critical
  •        Programming languages: C/C++, HTML/CSS, JavaScript
  •        Server / workstation administration skills in both Windows and Linux
  •        Experience writing software to create secure connections using SSL / TLS
  •        Experience integrating symmetric and/or public key encryption into software applications


Preferred Qualifications:

  •        Master’s degree in a computer, software or engineering discipline
  •        Experience writing software for embedded controllers and IoT
  •        Experience writing Python, PHP, node.js
  •        Cybersecurity certification
  •        Experience writing requirements for secure software systems
  •        Webserver administration experience, including IIS, Tomcat and Apache
  •        Experience creating CSRs and installing security certificates in both Windows and Linux environments along with configuring HTTPS connections in IIS, Tomcat and Apache
  •        Experience performing penetration tests on embedded and/or IoT systems
