The Raytheon Missile and Defenses (RMD) Mechanical Product Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Product Team uses state of the-art tools, processes, technology, and RMD's Six Sigma principles, MPTs capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

The Mechanical Products Team (MPT), Air Launched Effectors Department is currently searching for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to work on a multi-discipline team to assist and lead the design of products and subsystems utilizing 3D parametric models and drawings. The Air Power mission area has a single purpose: to give the U.S. Air Force and our allies an unmatched advantage across every mission phase. From long-range surveillance sensors to command and control, to next generation effectors, Air Power provides the technology required to keep the air domain secure.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Recommending solutions to a wide range of technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of various mechanical sub-systems both in the engineering lab and the factory floor both at RMS and at suppliers.
  • Post critical design activities include contributing to first article inspections, work instruction reviews, material dispositions, and root cause investigations to production issues. Decisions are data driven and require preparing technical justification analysis reports and presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards.
  • Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical issues.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering discipline.
  • Eight (8) years of professional experience in mechanical design or production support
  • Proficient in 3D CAD tools (modeling and drawing)
  • Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
Qualifications We Value:
  • Eight (8) years of professional experience in industry is desired
  • Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience within Defense and/or Aerospace Industry
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbally and written
  • Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative
  • Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development
  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
  • Support tasks as experience allows relative to both design development and production support
  • Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities
  • Active DoD issued security clearance
