The Pressure and Environmental Team is part of the Motion Sensing Team that develops high quality concept-to-product sensing solutions to enable exciting user features across Apple Products, including the iPhone, Watch, iPad and more.

This team features a collaborative environment with creative, smart people and state of the art technologies. With the goal of enabling features that benefit our users and provide great user experience, we drive to push design boundaries to develop and ship products with best-in-class technologies.

You will play a key role in specifying, developing, characterizing, and validating sensing systems. You should be familiar with physical sensors that employ MEMS and solid state technologies, understanding related device physics and applications, system integration, and manufacturing technologies of such sensors.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience in architecture, design, characterization, and validation of physical sensing systems that includes theory of operation, signal processing, fabrication, packaging and design trade-offs
  • Understanding of pressure sensing, thermal dynamics, heat transfer and related sensing techniques
  • Proficient in simulation, data collection, data analysis, and statistical analysis tools (ANSYS Maxwell, Comsol, Matlab, Python, JMP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid teamwork and leadership skills
  • Strong laboratory skills with a passion for hands-on experiments
  • Willingness and ability to travel if required

Description

Investigate and architect sensing design/technologies and system integration solutions to enable user features
Work cross-functionally to identify, create, and document sensing metrics that impacts user experience
Develop measurement methods and test set-ups that are repeatable, reproducible, and automated as appropriate to enable thorough validation coverage of sensors on tight development schedules
Diagnose engineering issues with rigorous scientific methods driving to definitive root cause
Analyze trade-offs among performance, manufacturability, size, schedule and cost
Author high quality and thorough engineering requirements specifications for sensors
Work with suppliers and manufacturing sites for production validation and issues resolution
Prepare and deliver presentations to clearly communicate technical status, risks and mitigation strategies.

Education & Experience

B.S. in mechanical or electrical engineering or physics and 5 years experience. MS or PhD preferred.
