Job Description

The ATAS laboratory is searching for a junior researcher experienced in aerospace data analysis to be part of a predictive maintenance and analytics research team addressing applied government predictive analytics challenges. Core job responsibilities are focused on helping with post-flight data analysis and conditioning, algorithm development in python for modeling and trend analysis, and assessment of corresponding technical metrics. These multi-million dollar programs will offer the additional opportunity for learning and developing applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) models.

The ideal candidate is familiar with aerospace data analysis, python algorithm development, and working with flight measurements. Specific note is given to working on manned fixed-wing or rotorcraft sensor suites for post-flight data processing. The candidate should have experience working as an analyst as well as some background in algorithm development. Relevant model backgrounds of interest include semi-empirical, analytical, regression, predictive, or advanced models (such as AI/ML, neural nets, etc).

The ideal candidate is also familiar with predictive maintenance and/or predictive analytics. Experience working with data pipeline improvements for deployed aircraft systems (with a specific focus on sustainment, maintenance, and/or logistics) is a plus. Additional familiarity with the peer-review publishing process, proposal writing, working in a laboratory environment, and being comfortable with technical engagement with both technical subject matter experts and sponsors is preferred.

Job Duties

  • Conduct aerospace data analysis, preparation, and conditioning for predictive analytics
  • Assist in model algorithm development, testing, validation, and deployment
  • Assessment of data results, technical metrics, and trend analysis
  • Document and present results in appropriate forums
  • Lead new proposal efforts to acquire sponsored research projects
  • Lead sponsored research tasks including directing up to three students or researchers

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's or Doctoral degree is required for consideration.
  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Doctoral degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December 2021
  • Expertise in Python and git
  • Familiarity with code development standards, version control methods, and software documentation
  • Familiarity with aerospace data, data analysis, and working with sensor measurements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with rotorcraft and/or manned fixed-wing platforms
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance, predictive analytics, or CBM/CBM+

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
