We have multiple openings for Postdoctoral Researchers to work in our Micro & Nano Technology Section (MNTS). You will collaborate with a team of engineers and scientists to perform research and development projects in support of ongoing and future advancements in the topics & areas of micro/nano-fabrication processes, ranging from wide bandgap semiconductors, radiation detectors, electronic and optical devices, and integrated microsystems. These positions are in the Materials Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate.Essential Duties-Conduct research in and development of novel technologies in the context of wide bandgap semiconductors (gallium nitride, silicon carbide, and diamond), liquid semiconductors, silicon or germanium, CMOS devices, electronic and optical devices including electronic switches, radio-isotope batteries, radiation detectors, or other electronic devices.-Design, implement, and analyze techniques to simulate charge transport in a variety of semiconductor materials and devices.- Plan and execute experiments involving the fabrication and characterization of designed materials, devices and systems to validate the theory.- Work within a dynamic team contributing to all aspects of device and system development.- Organize, analyze, and present data from research.- Document research and publish results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences, seminars and/or technical meetings. - Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally.- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - PhD in Engineering, Applied Science, or related field.- Experience conducting laboratory experiments in one of more of the following areas:Semiconductor devices, photonics, CMOS, or wide bandgap materials.- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes (such as lithography, sputtering, e-beam, thermal evaporation, lapping and polishing, wet and dry etching techniques, wire and wafer bonding), and diagnostics (AFM, SEM, DLTS, SIMS).- Experience with software for device design, modeling, and data reduction.- Ability to perform as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution.- Ability to develop independent research projects through publication of peer-reviewed literature.-Proficient verbal and written communication skills as reflected in effective presentations of technical information at seminars, meetings and/or teaching lectures. - Effective initiative and interpersonal skills with desire and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a one year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
