We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research in the field of battery manufacturing. You will actively participate in the research in a multidisciplinary team to develop 3D printing and related techniques for the manufacturing of solid-state batteries including synthesis and modification of electrolyte and electrode materials, ink preparation for various 3D printing techniques, post processing, structural characterization, and electrochemical testing. The position is in the Nanoscale Integration Science group of the Materials Science Division.

Essential Duties
- Screen commercially available solid-state electrolyte and electrode materials for 3D printing.
- Perform synthesis/modification of solid-state electrolyte, electrode, and essential additive materials to fulfill the ink requirements.
- Design proper battery architectures, 3D print single- and multi-materials, and develop compatible post-printing processes.
- Characterize phase, chemistry, and morphology using XRD, Raman, SEM, XAS, tomography, etc.
- Assemble testing cells and run EIS, CV, and galvanostatic charge/discharge experiments to evaluate the battery performance.
- Pursue independent but complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory.
- Collaborate with scientists inamultidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals.
- Document research; publish papers in peer-reviewed journals, and present results within the DOE community and at conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Recent PhD in materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or related field.
- Experience in battery research.
- Understanding of the concepts of battery materials and 3D printing.
- Ability as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques and execution.
- Ability to develop independent research projects through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills as reflected in effectivepresentations at seminars, meetings and/or teaching lectures.
- Initiative and interpersonal skills with desire and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with solid state electrolytes or 3D printing
- Experience in materials synthesis, battery assembly, and electrochemistry.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: None required.

Note: This is a two year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
