Job Description

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) is among the largest and most prominent in the nation. The department offers Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in both Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Aerospace Engineering (AE). The department is housed in Engineering Building III, a four-story, 250,000-square foot facility built in 2010. Location is on Centennial Campus combined with its proximity to the Research Triangle Park and neighboring universities provides extensive opportunities for academic and industrial interaction and collaboration.

Our research group’s focus is on multifunctional ceramic materials, especially on their electromagnetic (EM) property at high temperatures and extreme environments.

Essential Job Duties

This job is for a postdoctoral research associate position working in the modeling, design, fabrication and characterization of:

  • EM transparent or absorbent materials
  • engineered EM structures (metamaterials, frequency selective surfaces)
  • wireless antenna design for remote sensing and beam steering
  • conformal microwave devices

Responsibilities includes:

  • Publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals
  • Training and supervising graduate and undergraduate students
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment setup, maintenance, organization, and ordering of supplies as needed

 

 

Qualifications

  • Requires a doctor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, computer Engineering or a related area.
  • Solid knowledge of EM and antenna theory.
  • Prior experience in RF theory and antenna design are required.
  • Research expertise should include contributions in at least two of the following areas: wireless/RF communication, antenna design, radio frequency (RF) testing, metamaterial design.
  • Experience with RF lab equipment including power meters, spectrum analyzers, vector signal generators/analyzers and oscilloscope.
  • High technical achievement as evidenced by publication in high-impact scientific journals.
  • The candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.A. by time of application.

 

Timeline
The review process for applications will start on Nov. 1, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled. The expected start date for these positions is Nov. 15, 2020. Salary will be competitive based on qualifications.
