WACKER POLYSILICON is the global leader in the production of hyperpure polycrystalline silicon for the photovoltaics, solar and semiconductor industries. At our Charleston, TN site, we are currently looking for a Plant Engineer - Infrastructure - Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls.

This position performs plant engineering tasks and responsibilities to maintain and continuously improve performance of multiple infrastructure facilities and utility systems in support of the site's production units.

The individual must have in depth technical knowledge in relevant areas and must be flexible, motivated and determined to keep plant systems operational and maintain a high level of system availability to meet production schedules. In addition, maintaining safe operating conditions and regulatory compliance is a key responsibility.

The main objective of this position is to provide engineering and technical services to operations and service units in order to assure safe operations, regulatory compliance and to maximize the availability and efficiency of these systems.

The individual must possess flexibility, drive and determination to keep plant equipment running to meet production schedules

Your Tasks
• Ensure safe operating conditions of technical plants and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, statutes, and codes, in particular with OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) including Mechanical Integrity and Management of Change
• Support and closely cooperate with the Manager Engineering responsible for the area, in assuring safe operating conditions and regulatory compliance of production units
• Drive availability of infrastructure facilities, utility systems, water and waste water treatment units at required capacity and quality
• Consult and support capital projects executed by project engineering
• Lead/support commissioning of new and modified systems
• Lead/support in planning and execution of system or unit turnarounds
• Support maintenance team in planning and execution of ITPM and Corrective Maint activities
• Maintain asset data in enterprise asset management and plant engineering systems
• Keep documentation and equipment records up to date
• Become an expert capable of exercising engineering judgment with respect to the area of responsibility and assigned subject matter expert functions
• Develop andor support development of specifications and standards
• Coordinate and supervise third party providers for engineering and maintenance services
• Represent Wacker's interests towards authorities, suppliers and contractors
• Plan and execute small size investment projects
• Conduct and/or coordinate de-bottlenecking and troubleshooting activities
• Support procedure, process and technology transfer and exchange between Wacker's production sites
• Applying best practices related to engineering and construction
• Utilize value engineering practices
• Professionally manage changing priorities and scope requirements
• Coordination of interfaces to other engineering disciplines
• Work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams
• Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality and cost
• Cooperate with groups and individuals within the Engineering and Maintenance department, within Operations and within other service units, with focus on achieving optimal results and solutions from a corporate enterprise perspective
• Perform all tasks and assignments in accordance with Wacker's policies and procedures


Your Profile
• Bachelor's degree, or higher, in electrical engineering
• 1-3+ years of combined professional experience in the field of plant engineering, project management and budget management; Project management experience is beneficial
• Some experience and technical knowledge in the field of electrical engineering, instrumentation and controls (EI&C) including relevant regulations, standards and codes
• Strong controls background, open and closed loop
• Strong power distribution background
• Knowledge of ETAP or similar Electrical Power System Software preferred
• Ability to perform load studies, protection & coordination, transformer sizing & cable sizing
• Working knowledge of functional safety
• Objective judgment and fact based decision making approach
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Leadership skills combined with team player attitude
• Ability to work in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams
• Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements
• Strong multitasking competency
• Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure
• Thorough understanding of budget management
• Understanding and experience with physical processes and processing of hazardous chemicals
• Preferred, but not required: Emerson delta V, SAP EAM
• Plant Engineering activities are performed mainly in an office environment but also require presence in the field (manufacturing plant and/or construction site). Candidate must pass a pulmonary function test to be capable of wearing an air purifying respirator, if required.
• Location for this position is the Wacker Polysilicon site in Charleston, TN. However, business travel may be required if deemed necessary to further expand job knowledge, Wacker tools and processes and to integrate with the Wacker team.
• Manufacturing facility with energized machinery, electrical equipment, mechanical equipment and vibration
• Exposure to occasional loud noise levels
• Occasional exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions
• Due to schedule and milestone requirements nonstandard work schedule such as nights, holidays and/or weekends may be required. Position will be required to participate in the On-Call rotation
• This is an “exposed” position, in which the employee will be exposed to or directly handling hazardous chemicals. As such, this job requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment including respiratory protection – negative pressure respirator.
• Employee also must be able to work within an exposed area of high magnetic fields.
• Able to climb ladders/stairs and work at elevated heights up to 200+ feet
• Entering a confined space through a manhole may also be required
